She also enjoyed volunteering at the MCC Thrift Store in Steinbach.Īlthough we will miss her dearly, as a family we are happy she is in a better place. She taught Sunday School for many years at the EMB church now Cornerstone Bible Church and was very active in ladies Bible Study groups. Laura’s faith in God was very important to her. She would have to adjust to a single life again with her daughter Bonnie. This all changed when her lifelong companion, Al, passed away suddenly in 1999. Later after retirement they would spend several months in Arizona during the winter to escape the cold weather. Laura liked to travel, which she got to do many times with her husband Al, including a trip to the Bahamas, a Caribbean Cruise, as well as many parts of North America. Later on their daughter Bonnie became involved in Special Olympics and they travelled the country watching her compete in various events. Together Laura and Al spent countless days following their son Randy to many different arenas and ball diamonds watching hundreds, if not thousands, of hockey and baseball games. Many of these outings were done together with her sister Ester and her husband Herman. Laura and Al loved the outdoors and spent many weekends and vacations at the lake as well as their seasonal spots at Caddy Lake and Buffalo Point. She was a faithful friend and had a number of ladies that became lifelong friends, which she got together with whenever possible over a cup of coffee. She didn’t just stick to the traditional Mennonite food, but loved to cook Chinese food and made pizza that was second to none. Laura loved to cook and entertain people which she did cheerfully. She did however have several part time jobs after the kids were in school.
Friesen and Son and later Fairway Ford, as well as the many other organizations and roles he was involved in. Laura’s main focus was a mother and homemaker supporting her husband at JR.
They made their home in Steinbach where they raised their two children. Laura married the love and companion of her life, Al Reimer on May 28, 1950. During her high school years she worked at a local general store where she gained many life skills and helped her mom pay the bills. Growing up in Saskatchewan during the depression was a challenge and losing her dad at an early age made life that much more difficult. Laura was one of four children born to Henry and Helena Ensz on November 1, 1926, in Morse, Saskatchewan. She finally went to be with her Lord and Saviour and joined her loved ones. Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, Laura passed away on Monday, March 30, 2015, at the Rest Haven Nursing Home, at the age of 88 years.
